First UK FOAM/OpenFOAM User Day

We are pleased to announce the First UK FOAM/OpenFOAM User Day, to be held at CFMS, based at the Bristol and Bath Science Park on 20 and 21 November 2014.

The objective of the User Day is to encourage collaboration and exchange of information between the users of foam-extend/OpenFOAM in the UK and Ireland. The meeting will take place over one-and-a-half days, with a communal dinner on Thursday evening.

The intended audience for the User Day are all users of foam-extend/OpenFOAM in the region who are encountering problems or challenges in their work, or would like to report on the progress to the community.

The venue is located near Bristol, with convenient access to M4 and M5 motorways. Map view of venue location.

The meeting is scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday 20 November 2014, starting at 2 pm
  • Friday 21 November 2014, starting at 9.30 am, and scheduled to conclude by 5 pm.

There is no attendance fee; for easier organisation, may I please ask all attandees to register by E-mail with the organiser (see below).

A detailed agenda shall be provided closer to the time.

The preliminary plan is as follows:

  • Thursday pm: Two free training sessions (2 hours each)
    • prof. Gavin Tabor, University of Exeter: How to Write OpenFOAM Applications and Get On in CFD
    • prof. Hrvoje Jasak, Wikki Ltd: Dynamic Mesh features in FOAM
  • Friday am: presentation of foam-extend/OpenFOAM work by attendees; to be announced
  • Friday pm: Birds-of-a-feather sessions

If you would like to present your work in the Friday session, please contact the organisers by E-mail. For birds-of-a-feather (BoF) sessions, the idea is to encourage the users to have an open discussion on topics of their interest in smaller groups. At the end of the day, BoF sessions shall report on their progress.

The organising Committee for the First UK FOAM/OpenFOAM User Day is:

  • prof. Hrvoje Jasak, Wikki UK
  • dr. David Standingford, Zenotech
  • prof. Gavin Tabor, University of Exeter.

We are looking to make the UK FOAM/OpenFOAM User Day a regular event, moving between various UK locations. Please do not hesitate to contact the organisers if you would like to host one of the future events.
